Hummingbird Feeders

Hummingbirds

Hummingbirds are truly astonishing creatures. They are the smallest birds in the world and the only ones who can fly forwards and backwards. Hummingbirds, or "Hummers," consume nectar to fuel their fast-paced lives. Since hummingbirds only live in North and South America, we have the unique ability to protect their populations and help them thrive. The first step is to have nectar-rich, flowering plants in your garden, and preferably at least one hummingbird feeder. Remember to change the nectar every day or two and thoroughly clean the feeder every time you refill it to prevent deadly fungal infections. Once the birds have taken up residence around your home, they will naturally pollinate many plants and consume insects for sustenance. Hummers' favorite food sources are gnats, mosquitoes, aphids, caterpillars, flies, and insect eggs, which makes them beneficial as well as beautiful!

Here is a list of flowering plants that attract hummingbirds and butterflies. Stop by the store where our nursery staff can help you create a new flower garden or add to existing ones. We also carry a large variety of different-styled hummingbird feeders and food for your feeders. Visit Hummingbirds.net to learn all there is to know about attracting hummers and keeping them happy around your home!
